Employability and experience of work

Empowering Students Through Employability Programmes

At Northgate School Academy Trust, we place employability at the core of our mission, ensuring that our young people are well-prepared for adulthood and the workforce. Our commitment to employability, learning and skills building is evident in the diverse and dynamic programs we offer across years 10, 11, 12, and 13.

Engaging with Employers: A Multi-Year Approach

Years 10 & 11: Building Foundations
  • Employer Workshops: We host in-school workshops featuring professionals from various industries, including media, arts, logistics, and hospitality. These sessions aim to inspire and inform students about a wide range of job roles.
  • Careers Fair: An annual event held in March, open to both students and parents, where numerous employers present opportunities and career paths.
  • Experience Days (Year 11): Up to three experience days are offered, allowing students to explore different sectors firsthand.
Year 12: The Bee Hive Experience
  • Personalized Experience Days: Students select from 4-5 experience days in the first half of the year. The Employability team conducts interviews to tailor these experiences to students' interests and career aspirations.
  • Interactive Learning: Small groups visit employers who provide practical tasks, facility tours, and employee interactions, offering a glimpse into various workplaces and helping build confidence for future work experiences.
Year 13: Real-World Work Experience

Diverse Placement Options
  •   Day Placements: Short-term work experience in a chosen field.
  •   Pre-Apprenticeship Placements: One day a week throughout the academic year in a specific sector.
  •   Independent Work Experience: 1-2 week placements tailored to students' career interests.
  •   Supported Work Experience: Additional support for those who need it to succeed in a workplace environment.
Tailored Opportunities and Student-Centric Approach

Our Employability team works closely with each student to identify their career interests and find suitable placements. Whether a student aspires to be a chef or a childcare assistant, we strive to provide the best match to ensure a meaningful and engaging experience. Feedback consistently highlights the students' appreciation for being treated like adults and the opportunity to gain practical insights into their chosen fields.
